Under Construction
Around summer, my parents decided to move to a suburb of my hometown and build a small house in farmland. So I helped them during the summer holiday.
It started with a lot of document for legal permission about water and sewage treatment, land usage, building plan, construction and so on. To begin with actual construction, we researched building process and architectural materials in detail. While invigilating the building site on a daily basis, planning and choosing materials within budget were quite hard and time-consuming job.

However, it amazed me seeing the empty land changed to the exterior of a house by framework filling with building materials. At the same time, Inside of building structure made artistic inscape of raw materials. After builders left for the day, the view was like mise-en-scene at any angle. Carpenter’s tool and material helped the inner space look like installation or painting in the extended field.
Consequently, I have thought that playing with composition is not enough to carry on my practice. Also, architectural and interior materials are so interesting that I want to find the right to bring them in my work.
