Park 16
22 April 2016: A day of site-specific projects in Cannizaro Park SW19 4UE
Antony Dixon has asked fourteen fellow art students to make casts from sites around Wimbledon, and to embed each cast with a fragment of text or image that they’ve found themselves. Copies of these fragments can be found at each site, marked within the PARK 16 map which can be found on the website and will be available at each of the PARK sites. Working with a group of artists, we each made a 16”sq cast of the ground. Points between Cannizaro Park, Wimbledon Library and Wimbledon College of Arts were chosen to cast. In the surface of each cast the artist has place a 2D object. The time place of each cast has been recorded alongside the time and place of the artist’s original encounter with the 2D object. Additionally, a copy of the 2D object has been placed in the location of the cast.
It was one-day site-specific work but it means way more than that. We appreciate that Antony shared his practice and experience. Most of us really cooperated all the way of the process. We walked alongside the mapping route together and cast the ground together. 16 pieces of work are not just the instant collection from 15 people to exhibit. 15 artists shared our collective memory from the past as well as the memory of park16 project.
